چکیده

Coronary aiteriovenous electrolyte differences were studied in normoand hypercnpneic dogs at normal temperature and at 24 C. The ions measured were sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, ohlorideand hydrogen. Coronary arteriovenouselectrolytedifferencesdid not changeduringcooling in 16 dogs which did not suffer ventricular fibrillation. Ten hypercapneic hypothermic dogs exhibited characteristic Ca, K, and H ion changes at 24 C. before succumbing to ventricular fibrillation. The data suggest that ventricular fibrillation at low body temperatures is related to a gain of Ca and a loss of K and H ions by the hypothermic hypercapneic myocardium.

Modulation of extracellular atrioventricular node field potential pattern and ventricular rhythm by morphine in experimental atrial fibrillation in isolated rabbit heart

Introduction: Endorphins are produced by cardiomyocytes, and exert different effects on the heart. The aim of the present study is to assess morphine effects on extracellular atrioventricular (AV) node field potential pattern and ventricular rhythm of isolated rabbit heart during experimental atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods: Effects of different concentrations of morphine (10, 20, 50 and 1...

SUDDEN VENTRICULAR FIBRILLATION DURING CATHE TERIZATION DUE TO LIDOCAINE INFILTRATION FOR LOCAL ANESTHESIA IN A 53 YEAR OLD WOMAN

Mrs. Heidari, 53 developed ventricular fibrillation and cardiopulmonary arrest after receiving 15 mL lidocaine 2% for local anesthesia at the Dr. Shariati Hospital Cathlab. There was no identified risk factor for her arrest preoperatively. She had a history of exertional chest pain for about 5 years and an electrocardiogram showed only inverted T-waves at the time of angiography. The case i...
